Karlyn Pickens Earns Fifth 2026 AUSL Golden Ticket, Presented by Jennie Finch

— Tennessee senior right-handed pitcher Karlyn Pickens became the fifth college athlete to receive a Golden Ticket to the 2026 Athletes Unlimited Softball League College Draft on Thursday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, securing her place among the elite group guaranteed selection in the league’s inaugural professional draft.

Softball legend and AUSL advisor Jennie Finch made a surprise appearance to present the Golden Ticket to Pickens in front of the Lady Vols’ home crowd before Tennessee’s matchup against South Carolina. Finch, a former Olympic gold medalist and one of the most recognizable figures in softball history, has served as a league ambassador alongside Cat Osterman, Natasha Watley and Jessica Mendoza throughout the Golden Ticket announcement process.

“I heard there was a little meeting that needed to take place, and what better way?” Finch said during the on-field presentation.

A Decorated Career in Knoxville

Pickens is one of the most accomplished pitchers in Tennessee softball history and one of the most dominant arms in the Southeastern Conference. She earned back-to-back SEC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2024 and 2025, becoming just the third pitcher in league history to win the award in consecutive seasons. A two-time NFCA First Team All-American, Pickens was also named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2023 after an immediate-impact debut season.

Among her most notable achievements, Pickens holds the NCAA record for fastest recorded pitch at 79.4 mph, a velocity that has drawn comparisons to some of the hardest throwers the sport has ever seen.

In her senior campaign through 35 appearances this season, Pickens has posted an 8-3 record with a 1.46 ERA, seven complete games, one shutout, two saves and 96 strikeouts. Her ability to command the zone and overpower lineups has made her a projected top selection in the upcoming draft.

Golden Ticket Class Takes Shape

The Golden Ticket guarantees Pickens a spot among the 17 college players who will be selected in the 2026 AUSL College Draft, scheduled for May 4 on ESPN2. She joins a growing class of recipients that includes NiJaree Canady (Texas Tech), Reese Atwood (Texas), Leighann Goode (Texas) and Sydney Stewart (Arizona).

The Carolina Blaze hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. All six AUSL teams — the Blaze, Chicago Bandits, OKC Spark, Portland Cascade, Texas Volts and Utah Talons — will make selections from the pool of Golden Ticket holders and eligible college athletes.

The AUSL’s first season tips off June 9, with 50 games set to air across ESPN networks and select marquee matchups on ABC. The league operates under Commissioner Kim Ng, the former MLB executive who has overseen the expansion to six permanent-home-city franchises.
