Carolina Blaze pitcher Karlyn Pickens is engaged. Pickens said yes to Jack Browder, a professional basketball player, on Sunday, Oct. 4, and shared the news on Instagram. The Blaze posted the announcement Monday.
The couple marked two years together in April. Browder plays in Australia’s National Basketball League.
From Tennessee to the Blaze
Pickens left Tennessee as a two-time SEC Pitcher of the Year with four career no-hitters, a mark only Monica Abbott and Ivy Renfroe had reached for the Volunteers before her. The Blaze took her No. 1 overall in the AUSL College Draft on May 4, and she went straight into Carolina’s rotation.
Her rookie line: 15 appearances, 10 starts, a 4-6 record and a 3.13 ERA. She struck out 60 batters in 60.1 innings, threw four complete games and one shutout, and picked up a save. The Blaze finished 9-16, fifth in the six-team league.
She was back in a U.S. uniform in September, when Team USA qualified for the 2027 World Cup Finals in Oklahoma City.
Her next game action comes with Team USA. Pickens is one of 13 AUSL players on the U.S. roster for the Japan All-Star Series, Nov. 19-22, in Nagoya and Okinawa.
