Michaela Edenfield on the Game-Day Makeup That Survives a Catcher’s Mask

Texas Volts catcher Michaela Edenfield has worn elaborate game-day makeup since high school. In a new AUSL feature, she explained how she keeps it on under a catcher’s mask in Texas heat, and why she wants fans to see more than the looks.

Edenfield said she started experimenting in middle school after watching beauty creators on YouTube. Her mother made her practice at home first.

“My mom made me practice a lot because she was always one of those people like, ‘You’re not gonna embarrass me out in public, so you’re gonna practice at home.'”

She just finished her second pro season with the Volts, who drafted her out of Florida State in 2025.

Built to survive the mask

Catching is the hard part. Edenfield wears a helmet or mask for most of a game, so anything that transfers or creases is out. She builds a light base and sets it heavily. Her current picks include Huda Beauty’s Easy Bake setting powder and Dior’s Backstage concealer, with ONE/SIZE’s Powder Melt for the most humid days at home.

“The catcher’s gear, it does not help at all,” she said. “I’m constantly either having a helmet on or a mask on.”

The pearls and gems that make her looks recognizable go on with lash glue. She uses DUO, and sometimes Sephora’s own. Sephora is the AUSL’s exclusive beauty partner, and the feature ran as part of that partnership.

More than the looks

Edenfield said the makeup gives her a platform, and she wants to use it for harder conversations: being bullied, grief, and the pressure of being a student-athlete and then a pro.

“There are plenty of little girls that are on social media right now, following probably their favorite creator, in which they don’t always get told, like, the tough things in life,” she said. “I really want to be able to share that authenticity, but also to show them that it’s okay to struggle.”
