Rachel Garcia and Jordan Woolery Take MLBx to Mumbai

Two AUSL hitters who have already won MLBx events are taking the home run derby to India. Texas Volts two-way player Rachel Garcia and Utah Talons infielder Jordan Woolery will compete at MLBx Mumbai on Saturday, Oct. 24.

It is the second MLBx event held outside the U.S. The first was in London in 2022, at Crystal Palace Park.

The teams

MLBx is a 3-on-3 home run derby run by Major League Baseball. In Mumbai, every team includes a cricket player, a nod to India’s most popular sport.

Garcia will hit for the New York Yankees squad with Nick Swisher, a World Series champion, and Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav, a former captain of India’s T20 International team.

Woolery is on the Los Angeles Dodgers squad with Adrián González, a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. Their cricket player is Jitesh Sharma, who plays domestic cricket for Vidarbha and is with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League.

Both have won before

Garcia was named MVP at MLBx in Philadelphia during MLB’s 2026 All-Star Week after leading her team to the win. Woolery took home the trophy in August in Atlanta as part of Team Kevin Pillar.

AUSL players have been regulars on the MLBx circuit this year. In September, Portland Cascade slugger Megan Grant hit 13 home runs in a semifinal round at MLBx Durham, where Reese Atwood, Ana Gold and Sami Williams also hit.

How scoring works

Teams score points for home runs and for defensive catches, with bonus points for hitting targets. Each hitter can call a five-swing “Hot Streak” that doubles the points available.

Their 2026 seasons

Woolery was a rookie this year. The Talons took the former UCLA infielder sixth overall in the May 4 College Draft as one of the 17 Golden Ticket picks. She won the AUSL title in her first season and finished with 20 hits and 11 RBIs, postseason included.

Garcia, also a UCLA product, pitched and hit for the Volts. She threw 44.1 innings and batted .200 in 12 games at the plate. She played for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics while still in college and won silver, and she pitched at the WBSC Softball Group Stage Event in September, where the U.S. staff did not allow a run in six games.
