TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State graduate pitcher Kenzie Brown was awarded the seventh AUSL Golden Ticket on April 7, 2026, when ESPN broadcaster Holly Rowe walked onto the field at Alberta B. Farrington Stadium minutes before first pitch and handed her the envelope. The Sun Devils went on to beat UTEP 13-0.
Brown told The Arizona State Press the moment caught her off guard. “It was definitely super emotional. I don’t think it has set in; it was such a surprise,” she said. “Playing with that behind my back, too, now, is such a blessing.”
The Golden Ticket guarantees Brown a spot in the 2026 Athletes Unlimited Softball League College Draft, which airs May 4 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. She becomes the seventh of eight players announced so far for what AUSL Commissioner Kim Ng has said will be a class of 12 before draft night.
From Tulsa to All-American
Brown’s path to the AUSL did not start at Arizona State. She spent her freshman season at Tulsa in 2022, posting a 6.78 ERA across 52.2 innings, then transferred to ASU and redshirted in 2024. The breakout came in 2025: 19 wins in 35 appearances, 289 strikeouts in 174.1 innings, a 1.28 ERA, and a strikeout rate of 40.5 percent of batters faced. Her 289 K’s ranked fourth nationally.
That season earned her NFCA First-Team All-American honors and All-Big 12 First Team recognition, the latter repeated in 2026. Her 2026 numbers are more modest — 2.84 ERA across 81.1 innings — but she has remained the ace of an Arizona State staff that was ranked No. 23 in the country at the time of the Golden Ticket presentation.
She told The Arizona State Press that staying for a graduate year was an easy call. “My entire time here has been such a blessing, that’s why I chose to stay,” she said. “I love Tempe, I love this team and I love this coaching staff.”
The Surprise at Farrington Stadium
The on-field reveal has become the AUSL’s signature method for Golden Ticket announcements, and Holly Rowe has delivered most of them. The Tuesday afternoon game against UTEP gave the league a captive audience of Sun Devils fans and a teammate huddle that turned the moment into one of the more visible Golden Ticket presentations of the cycle.
Brown was the seventh recipient. She was followed three days later by Stanford’s Taryn Kern, the eighth.
